    About SINN02

    In spring 2001 we started with a project called SINN - Searchengine Network in the International Natural Science Network to enhance the distributed information system PhysNet to a fast and stable service by setting up a network of independent but cooperated Harvest-brokers and Harvest-gatherers and building an active network of PhysNet-mirrors.

    In December 2001 the SINN01 - First International Technical Workshop of the project SINN took place in Oldenburg. The objective of this workshop was to bring all partners of SINN and PhysNet together and to jointly design and set up the mirror-network of PhysNet. Additionally formal and technical cooperations of Physics Societies and with other fields like Mathematics have been discussed.

    SINN02 - the 2nd International Conference and Technical Workshop of the project SINN, held in Oldenburg in November 2002, focused on how to improve technically the network of independent but cooperarting national and regional Harvest-brokers and -gatherers.

    SINN02 consisted of two parts:

    November 6th - 7th 2002:
    Technical Workshop

    The technical part included

    1. XML-query language and usage
    2. Installation, configuration and operation of Harvest gatherers and brokers
    3. Implementing of ranking and personalization

    November 8th 2002:
    Conference on 'Open Distributed Science Information Management'

    The conference part of SINN02 primarily covered the networking of distributed subject specific information services, divided into the following thematic sessions:

    1. Field specific portals for sciences (with distributed content)
    2. Field specific retrieval
    3. OAi Service Providers: concepts for services and realization
    4. Long term archiving (in Physics) and cooperation with libraries

    In addition to all known partners of SINN and PhysNet, we invited representatives of all national Phycical Societies as well as respresentatives of other fields to take an active part in the conference.
